Zinfandel is a grape with murky origins – for a long time, oenologists thought the grape was native to the United States; now we know it is the same as Italy’s Primitivo and Croatia’s Crljenak Kaštelanski. Whatever its origins, Zinfandel is one of America’s most successful grape varieties; it makes a big, robust red wine, full of juicy and spicy flavor. Zinfandel produces a wine with aromas including blackberries, pepper, and anise. It is often a wine with a high alcohol content.
