Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same variety of grape; Pinot Grigio is its Italian name, Pinot Gris its French. (Both "grigio" and "gris" mean gray, in Italian and French respectively.) The grape can produce anywhere from light- to medium- to full-bodied wines, depending on the region and winemaker. Typically, Italian Pinot Grigios are light-bodied, crisp wines; their French counterparts can be full and rich. The wines can be greatly enjoyed while young.
