Chardonnay, originally from Burgundy, France ("White Burgundy" is Chardonnay), is now one of the world's most widely grown grapes. Chardonnay works well as a varietal and in blends. It is an extremely variable grape, making wines that are steely and mineral in tone (like those from Chablis, France), to wines that are fat and buttery (like those from Napa Valley, California). Preference for the racier or the more voluptuous style of Chardonnay is completely up to your palate. Chardonnay often features aromas of tropical fruit and green apples.

If you enjoy Chardonnay, you may enjoy another full-bodied white like Viognier. Chenin Blanc can also be a great alternative to Chardonnay.
