We had heard a lot of buzz about a product on the market called the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator. So we decided to see what all the commotion was about. When you first take the Vinturi out of the box it really doesn’t look like much, but in this case, big things certainly come in small packages!
To test this little gadget we ran an experiment of our own. We started with a very young red wine, just bottled after being made in one of our stores. It was an Italian Montepulciano. Now realistically, this wine would not be at it’s best for at least 6 months or after at least an hour of decanting. For the first sample, we tested the wine untouched straight from the bottle to the glass. It was not really enjoyable and sharp on the tongue – clearly young with sharp and aggressive tannins. For the next sample, we poured the wine through the Vinturi and into the glass. Although pouring the wine took the same amount of time as it did for the first sample – the differences in the in the wine was astounding. The Montepulciano was now smooth, and extremely pleasant to drink. It was as if the wine had been aging in the bottle for several months.
Patience is really not one of my strongest characteristics, at least when it comes to my wine. I tend to select wines to make that will be ready to drink rather quickly after being bottled so that I do not need to wait for them to age. When entertaining I am also not the best at remembering to open my red wine and let it breath or to decant it. Now, I don’t have that worry any longer I simply use my Vinturi.
So if you are like me and are an impatient wine drinker or are looking for the ultimate gift for the wine enthusiast who has everything, I highly recommend the Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator.
