Poetry is a unique way to show appreciation to your Mom. And, Robert Louis Stevenson, in his poem, certainly captures a sentiment to which we all can relate. But, for those of us not quite as eloquent with a pen, the Scottish poet, novelist and essayist has inadvertently given us an alternative solution in his quotation: “Wine is bottled poetry.”
To My Mother
by Robert Louis Stevenson
You too, my mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor
Wines – like poetry and Moms – have different characteristics. Some are light and lilting like a crisp Pinot Grigio or Verdicchio. Others are deep, full and have a lingering effect like a Cabernet Sauvignon or Italian Barolo. There are some wines that are comfortable in a crowd on the patio or by the pool such as Sangria, Pomegranate Zinfandel or Green Apple Riesling. Others, like a delicate Pinot Noir or French Chardonnay, may lend themselves to more intimate occasions. There are sweet choices like ice wines, soothing selections such as Merlot, and spicy options like Zinfandel.
So, if you are looking for a way to express your sentiments to Mom on May 8, think about poems for mom or sending your message in a bottle of just the right wine.
